When everything else has disappointed and failed us in life, we often hope that a spiritual teacher will finally give us what we want – only to be let down yet again. So, who can we truly trust and rely on?
Rupert says: ‘A good teacher should be our final disappointment. So, if you’ve been disappointed by the teacher or the teaching it’s a good sign – a sign of the deepening of your understanding. I know it’s uncomfortable that something you’ve invested yourself in has let you down, and you feel that the teaching no longer has that power that you previously relied on.
‘But it’s good, because you’re having to go deeper in your self. You shouldn’t rely on the teacher, or the teaching. In the end, you should only rely on your self, your own being. But I’ll always be here as your friend – that won’t be taken away. Love can’t be taken away.’
