A woman wants to know more about death and what happens when we die. She also wants to know how she can convey the non-dual understanding – that our essential self is never born and never dies – to her mother who is terminally ill.
Rupert says: ‘Your deepest truth is that the fact of being aware is ever-present and changeless. If that is true for you, it must also be true for your mother. Yes, her mind, her body – all of that is going to disappear. But who she is is not going anywhere.
‘The greatest gift you can give her is to stand knowingly as this ever-present, unchanging being when you’re with her. You’ll be blessing her as she passes away. Just your presence in the room will convey this understanding subliminally. Her mind may not register it or even acknowledge it, but that doesn’t matter – it will go into her heart.’
