hiiiii. I saw an absolutely amazing clip today(youtu.be/nvwBoSPT7QY?t=388 ), of something I've somehow never seen before. Apparently, if you shoot the dragon super perfectly as it perches, you can get it to just spiral around the fountain all the way down. Which is absolutely hilarious, and since I'm worryingly obsessed with the ender dragon, I wanted to try recreating it. Is it useful? Probably not. Ngl I just wanted to see what it looks like if it spins for more than 2 seconds(and in slow motion).
In theory it's not even anything crazy. In fact the reason it happens is actually pretty similar to how I went about minimizing the death animation(youtu.be/TWr8edoqJz0) in one of my previous end fight TASes. You just have to get the angular momentum/actual velocity of the dragon just right so that it gets stuck continuously turning towards its target as it descends, without speeding past it. The only difference is that instead of speeding up your end fight this just messes up your one cycle! I will say it is a LOT harder to do than the death animation tho cuz perch physics are pretty crazy funky silly. Which is also why you probably wouldn't ever see this naturally, but it's not too hard to do with TAS. Mainly it's just difficult because a perching dragon turns super fast, which means the dragon has to be suuuper closer to its target in order to get into the swing of things(get it!??!). You also have to make sure it has as little velocity as possible or else it'll just speed past its target and start swooping again. The death animation doesn't have this issue as much tho since the spirals are so much bigger. Ideally you start with a little extra angular momentum in the right direction too to get things moving, but the dragon turns so fast here that it doesn't really matter. Otherwise that's all it takes!
Also sadly I couldn't find a setup to get it to start spinning from the very top top of its perch, but this was enough to satisfy me. You could prolly do it better with more arrow shots or other dragon shenanigans, but that was more brain power than I was willing to invest in this lol
