In this Spindle Spotlight, I'm featuring a simple, easy to find, good starter style drop spindle. This is also a style that could easily be made using a dowel, toy wheel, finial, and hook. See below for a couple shops that carry similar spindles for sale, or search "drop spindle" on Etsy; there are many, many shops that sell this style of spindle. The shaft on this spindle has a nice point that allows for some support while spinning. I really feel that being able to support a spindle can be a big help when learning how to spin.

Depending on shaft style, some can be used supported

Susceptible to gravity (when single breaks, spindle falls)
Spin time varies based on size, weight, style
Plying requires an extra step; either a type of plying stand or winding a ball to ply from.
