Always a popular activity, getting a seat on a restored railroad inspection motorcar (often referred to as a "speeder") can be tough during the annual Railroad Days.
The trip leaves north from the museum grounds and travels to White Heath, IL, a few miles away. Most of the time we are moving around 15-25 MPH.
The speeders stay together as a group, in case someone has mechanical trouble and needs towed back to the museum.
The volunteer-in-charge of the speeder rides stays in constant radio contact with the control tower, and other trains sharing the same main track.
