I just returned from speaking at the 100th anniversary of the Scopes Monkey Trial in Dayton, Tennessee, where I delivered a talk on how Christians have responded to evolutionary theory from 1925 to 2025. In this video, I share my personal experience attending this historic symposium at the original courthouse where the famous 1925 trial took place.
I explore the fascinating parallels between the cultural battles of the 1920s and today's ongoing debates over science education. During my visit, I had the privilege of speaking alongside renowned scholars like Ed Larson (Pulitzer Prize winner for "Summer of the Gods") and paleoanthropologist John Hawks. The symposium brought together multiple perspectives on how the Scopes Trial continues to influence American education and the relationship between science and religion.
I also examine recent articles from young-earth creationist organizations about the Scopes centennial, including Ken Ham's predictable claims about "compromisers" and Nathaniel Jeanson's ambitious predictions about creation science making a comeback as a result of his very own research. I analyze the latter claim with the skepticism, pointing out the logical flaws and lack of peer review in much of this work.
Additionally, I provide updates on Ark Encounter attendance figures (spoiler: they continue declining) and share some geological discoveries I made during fossil hunting stops on my road trip through Kentucky.

This experience reinforced my understanding of how ideological commitments can lead to confirmation bias and selective interpretation of evidence. The historical parallels between 1925 and 2025 are striking, though perhaps not in the ways that some creationist commentators suggest.
