In 2007, fellow young-earth creationists warned that Answers in Genesis was headed for disaster. They predicted that without proper accountability structures and checks on Ken Ham's authority, the ministry would eventually collapse. Eighteen years later, those warnings are proving prophetic.
In this video, I examine the current leadership crisis at Answers in Genesis using public records, financial documents, and the words of people who were there. The failed succession plan with Martin Iles, significant staff layoffs affecting corporate employees, declining Ark Encounter attendance, and a $20 million donation campaign all point to deeper structural problems that were identified—and ignored—nearly two decades ago.
I walk through the 2007 Briese Committee Report, which documented concerns about an "unhealthy fear of Ken Ham" and a ministry "far too dependent on one person." I compare AiG's trajectory with other personality-driven ministries like RZIM and Mars Hill Church that collapsed, and contrast it with Creation Ministries International, which deliberately built accountability structures after the 2007 split.
This isn't about gloating over AiG's difficulties. I genuinely feel for the hundreds of employees who moved their families to Kentucky believing in this mission, only to lose their jobs due to leadership failures they didn't cause. Christians need to understand how parachurch organizations eat themselves from the inside out when accountability is treated as disloyalty.
