2025 has been the busiest year in SpaceX’s history, mainly because of how often the company launches rockets. In the past, launching an orbital rocket was slow. One launch could take many months of preparation, and some rockets only flew once in their entire lifetime. In 2025, SpaceX changed what “normal” looks like. By mid-year, SpaceX had already passed 150 orbital launches, and the year was not finished yet.
This was another launch record for the company. In 2023, SpaceX completed 96 orbital launches in a single year. That was already more launches than any company or country had ever achieved in one year. In 2024, SpaceX broke its own record again with 134 orbital launches. Then in 2025, they went even further, pushing well past 150 launches and continuing to add more flights. No other launch provider has ever reached this level of annual activity.
Most of these launches were not special missions or one-off events. The majority were routine launches carrying satellites into low Earth orbit. The main reason SpaceX can launch this often is because of Falcon 9 and how it is reused.
Falcon 9 is a two-stage orbital rocket. It is about 70 meters tall and about 3.7 meters wide. At liftoff, the first stage uses nine Merlin engines burning refined kerosene and liquid oxygen. Together, those engines produce about 7.6 million newtons of thrust. That is enough power to lift more than 500 tons off the ground.
