SpaceX was the first private space company to completely change how the space industry works. Space missions have always been extremely expensive, often costing billions of dollars every year. But SpaceX found a way to lower the cost by creating rockets and capsules that could be reused, like the Dragon spacecraft, the Falcon 9 rocket, and now the Starship system. They saved money, and also started making profit from space. As expected, China noticed this big change. Soon after, Chinese companies began making similar rockets, hoping to first catch up with the United States and later even go beyond it.
One company in China is now making fast progress, and their work has caught international attention. The company is called Landspace, and their newest rocket is named Juke 3. What they just tested could be a big step forward in the space race. So what did they do, and why does Juke 3 matter so much? Let’s break it down.
In the United States, SpaceX is clearly the most successful private space company. They started earlier and have already reached many goals, but they are still growing at a fast rate. Over in China, Landspace is a much smaller company but has the same goals as SpaceX. They want to lower the cost of going to space and build rockets that can be used more than once. Right now, Landspace is one of the most promising private space companies in China.
Landspace was founded in June 2015 by three engineers in Haidian, a tech-focused area of Beijing known for innovation and startups. Starting in this environment gave the company strong support and access to advanced knowledge from the beginning.
