. The operational sounds of an optical (compact disc) drive. In particular a failing (due to read errors) Packard Bell (rebranded Goldstar) GCD-R580G 8x speed CD-ROM. The tests are bring performed by PC-Doctor, a diagnostics program for DOS back in the day on a Packard Bell Legend 100CD. Primarily the drive noises are the optical head moving and the spin up of the spindle motor.
Tests performed are:
Linear Scan- The drive scans the first sector to the last sector of the disc.
Random Scan- The drive scans a random sector of the disc.
Funnel Scan- The drive scans sectors starting from the outermost to the innermost and then back out again.
