. FreedomPop is a beta wireless carrier that technically works on a prepaid system. The primary attraction with them is their 500MB monthly free data plan. The catch is that you actually get that plan and not get roped into a paid plan. They operate on Sprint's network and the mobile hotspot provided is a refurbished Sierra Wireless Overdrive Pro 3G/4G hotspot.
The free 500MB plan is only available using a 4G network (3G is a seperate paid plan). If you sign up for the free 1-month 2GB premium data plan you will need to contact them either through e-mail or phone to downgrade your plan to the free plan before the 1-month trial is over. You cannot directly downgrade all the way on your account; the lowest is the pro 500MB.
Overall, if you're in an area or travel to an area with Sprint's 4G coverage and looking for an inexpensive way to have mobile data for checking e-mail and other small tasks, FreedomPop is worth looking into. _
