A Vinyl Community live stream, playing and chatting vinyl records, new and old, from experimental music to dub, with healthy doses of post punk, indie, modern classical, electronic music, folk, psychedelia, hip hop, techno, global sounds, etc.
If you enjoyed this, maybe even found ideas of records to get, and want to tip your DJ & support the channel to do more of the same and better, you can do so here, it really makes a difference : ko-fi.com/stunty or paypal.me/stuntrockconfusion
I started this channel just a little over 5 years ago now. At first, I was doing regular VC videos, more or less. But very early on, I chose to play music as well, even if everyone told me back then that "you cannot do it", that youtube would block you and cancel your channel.
At first, I thought I would just try and see what happens. Nothing serious happened.
Sure, I got a few videos blocked, a few that I had to edit some copyrighted songs out, and of course, none of these videos can be monetized. So, yes, I was not going to get rich or referenced, doing that. So I guess that was not my goal there, but as I started to do this on a regular schedule, "sacrificing" my Friday evenings, I saw a video about shoe-gaze that implemented this Kofi thing, so that you could support the channel. I decided to try this out, as a sort of social experiment, and about three years ago, this decision changed everything.
With the ongoing support of some dedicated viewers, I could increase the quality of sound gradually, to the point where we are now, and most importantly, afford digging deeper in the unheralded rabbit holes I've always been fond of, and share knowledge almost immediately. The Tumult festival also is an unexpected result of this, as it allowed me to reconnect with artists from a more journalistic position, but my own one.
Next week will mark the exact 3rd anniversary of the current format, but tonight should be a good exemple of where this leads us already, with some pretty cool new arrivals, and some new discoveries. See you this Friday!
A few surprising turns follow us everywhere.
I was shopping for something to replace
what I once felt. Weren’t there buildings there
where we once lived, fully furnished
and looking out on the sea? Didn’t we distill
from neighbors the necessary codes
and gestures? At the core we were all traipse
and meander, governed by fill in the blank.
But it was here, the ramshackle Cape Cod
with rattling shutters eaten away
then revived, mended and painted over.
It takes just a scent of sea spray
to bring back the once was: skimpy,
the bikini, the beach, the conversation,
the veil of summer, skimpy the engine
that chugs toward love, skimpy the cover
of the universe. Thanks to this fragrance
we can sit under our favorite cedar,
or picture the old dreaded barber shop.
Now I want my hair touched, and my cheek.
I want the salt rubbed out with a handkerchief.
