Dr. Read is leading research funded by the US Navy on the goose-beaked whale, the mammal that holds world records for dive depth and duration off Cape Hatteras. His team of researchers is trying to understand how these elusive and enigmatic whales respond to the Navy’s midfrequency active sonar signals used to detect submarines.
