The growing importance of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) is driven by their role in modern technology. REES are used widely in various industries, especially in technologies crucial for sustainability and in devices for decarbonizing the economy, including magnet and battery technologies. Using plants, we study the role of REEs in biology and use this knowledge to develop carbon-friendly methods for recovering REEs from waste sources like Acid Mine Drainage and Fly Ash. Our approach focuses on plants capable of thriving in polluted environments and efficiently accumulating REES.
