Power losses, power dissipation and paralleling MOSFETs …
↓↓↓ Complete description, time index and links below ↓↓↓
Last time we’ve discussed switching losses, on/off transient durations and how to shorten them using a JET (link below). Today we have a look at the power losses during the on state, how to dissipate them and how parallel MOSFETs can help.
We first determine the on resistance of our MOSFETs and calculate the power loss and voltage drop. Then we assert how to dissipate the power loss with and without a heatsink. Finally we use parallel MOSFETs to decrease those power losses.
00:00 Intro – power losses and paralleling MOSFETs
00:20 Power losses – and voltage drops during on state
06:49 Power dissipation 1 – without heatsink
09:48 Power dissipation 2 – with heatsink
12:47 Paralleling MOSFETs – greatly reducing power losses
16:55 Power losses and dissipation – for parallel MOSFETs
21:42 On/off transients – more gates to drive, so longer
24:23 Junction temperature – stay below highest possible
25:05 Wrap-Up – next up is the control input, bye
