Four defendants in a fraud case related to the 2006 death of a Philadelphia girl have been found guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice.
Danieal Kelly died of starvation and neglect in August 2006 even though she was supposed to be under the watchful eye of a private social services organization under contract to the City of Philadelphia
The latest four defendants worked for -- and in some cases were cofounders of -- Multi-Ethnic Behavioral Health of Philadelphia.
On Wednesday all four were convicted of not doing the work they were paid to do, and of trying to cover up their failure after the handicapped 14-year-old girl died.
Among those convicted was Julius Murray (right), the caseworker who was supposed to be checking up on Danieal Kelly's welfare but did not.
Prosecutor Bea Witleben says Murray and the other defendants -- Mickal Kamuvaka, Solomon Manamela, and Mariam Coulibaly -- were supposed to be a safety net for hundreds of at-risk children. But, she says, they took the money and didn't do the job.
She says Kelly was supposed to be seen twice a week:
"Danieal Kelly paid the ultimate price for these defendants' fraud. And we hope that this is some measure of justice for her and the other children who were really the victims of this fraud."
Authorities say Kelly wasted away -- rotted in bed for a month or more -- before she died, weighing just 42 pounds.
Sentencing was set for June. Murray will remain in custody but the other three defendants will remain free until then.
