Wild Camping Beneath Ancient Trees | A Night in an Ancient Forest in England

Join me for a peaceful night of wild camping in an ancient forest in England, sleeping beneath a spectacular canopy of ancient trees with nothing but the sounds of the forest around me.
For this wild camp, I used just the inner mesh of my Snugpak Ionosphere bivvy, giving me an incredible opportunity to lie beneath the trees, watch the stars above and observe the forest as night slowly descended. With such an open setup, I could see the tree canopy and night sky as I drifted off to sleep.
Throughout the night, the forest was alive with wildlife. I heard the haunting calls of tawny owls hooting in the darkness, along with the distinctive barking calls of deer somewhere deeper among the trees. It was one of those wild camping experiences where simply lying still and listening becomes the adventure.
After sunrise, I packed up and explored deeper into the forest, discovering some truly spectacular ancient trees, including trees believed to be over 1,000 years old. Standing beside trees that have witnessed centuries of history was an unforgettable experience and a reminder of just how extraordinary England's ancient woodlands can be.
This isn't a fast-paced camping trip — it's about slowing down, reconnecting with nature, wild camping, ancient woodland, wildlife and simply spending a night under the stars.
