Who was Roye England.
Roye was a pacifist and brought up as a Christian.
I bet most of you haven't heard about him.
He was born in 1906 in Australia and moved to England when in his early 20's where he settled in The Vale of the White horse.
Roye was a passionate cyclist and railway enthusiast. He loved the old world nature of the surrounding countryside, hamlets and villages and he could see how as "modernisation" swept across the country, much of this history and charm was going to be lost, so he set about taking thousands of photographs and measuring various notable buildings with a view to recreate them as models which he added to his model railway.
His attention to detail was meticulous, everything was to scale and exact, every scene told a story.
Royes model railway grew with time and the help of others and is now an impressive "one of it's kind" in this country. He even made a model of the Vale of the Whitehorse, it is Massive.
You can now see for yourself the true extent and expertise that went into his work by visiting the Pendom museum at Long Wittenham Oxforshire.
Roye died in 1995 and his ashes are interred at St Mary the virgin church at Bishopstone.
