Uploading this video mainly so I can remember the route going forward. Easily one of the most annoying/difficult sections in the game in both a technical sense as well as routing. This is the big reason I save up extra lives earlier in the run, but there's a lot of very precise things in the route. Doing attempts is going to suck :-/ Owl and a few bosses can be improved further, but I have to decide if I want to do the run on Easy or Normal difficulty.

Holy cow this stage. The timing for the sawblades is pretty tight and on a global timer, so that early box drop matters a lot. The rest is just decent planning, however there are a lot of riskier strats that save not a lot of time at the cost of a bunch of HP. I still have a death in this run, but the checkpoint is somewhat generous so I didnt lose a ton of time. Can probably come down below 4:40, but I dont want to mess with it further.")

This is my speedrun of The Firemen on SFC in 10 minutes and 54 seconds. This time is game time; real-time is somewhere in the neighborhood of 16:30. The way that game time is calculated here is that the time spent in each Stage is summed to generate the total time. The Stage times are only accurate to the second; any extra fractions of a second beyond the time displayed on the timer are lost.
This run was very clean for a game as hectic as this. Two of the Stages were personal best times, and the rest were above average. Much of this game is played on reaction, since there are a ton of triggers for different flames and its very difficult to find a consistent path through many of the rooms.
This run uses deaths to improve the time and make it more consistent. Deaths provide an additional water-bomb, a full HP refill, and an extended invincibility period at the cost of about 1 game second. This is vital since I need to damage boost through most stages, and any extra boosts can speed things up immensely. I am working on a deathless run as well that uses different routes and does not abuse deaths, but it will be about 30 seconds slower than this run.")

Thanks to DarkLightBoco, we have some new things to try out! The first one shown uses punch, punch, crescent (delayed), punch. This is consistent, but you do have to wait a small amount of time for the lava guy to move up before you go under. You also have to dismount the zip at the end by neutral jumping once to avoid getting hit by the lava.
The second zip instead uses punch, punch, punch + crescent, where the crescent is delayed until youre inbetween the two platforms. Theres only a 3-frame window for this crescent to avoid death or taking damage on the other side, so its a lot more tricky. No delays though.")

This was a pretty decent run, but still didnt get the first try shotgun skip. Another 10-15 seconds can come off from that and cleaning up the combat in the first area. I dont plan to improve this run however, so use it as a reference for the skips and route.")
