Thanks to DarkLightBoco, we have some new things to try out! The first one shown uses punch, punch, crescent (delayed), punch. This is consistent, but you do have to wait a small amount of time for the lava guy to move up before you go under. You also have to "dismount" the zip at the end by neutral jumping once to avoid getting hit by the lava.
The second zip instead uses punch, punch, punch + crescent, where the crescent is delayed until you're inbetween the two platforms. There's only a 3-frame window for this crescent to avoid death or taking damage on the other side, so it's a lot more tricky. No delays though.
