Ever get stuck on platforms, unable to fall through? Well here's the reason:
When you enter the hard landing animation (which occurs when you fast fall or airdodge into the ground, or when you land with an autocancelled aerial), you will be unable to fall through a platform *until the hard landing animation finishes*. This animation lasts about half a second, which means that even for airdodges, you will be unable to directly fall through the platform until well after you're able to act otherwise.
However, there's a trick: you can interrupt the hard landing animation after its FAF (first actionable frame) with a different action that *can* directly transition into a platform drop. Your main options here are walking, shielding, and turning around. Walking is rather difficult to do without accidentally dashing (dashing prevents you from platform dropping, just like hard landing), and shielding requires you do a shield drop input, both of which are quite challenging.
However, we can actually buffer a grounded turnaround by flicking the analogue stick opposite of your facing direction *before* you land (or during your hard landing FAF, but since those can be as short as 4 frames, you'd probably want to give yourself some room), and then time your down input to take place after your hard landing transitions into a turnaround, giving you a fast platform drop without getting stuck!
This can be useful for platform pressure, or tricking your opponent with unpredictable movement.
