The explanation for these strats will be split between mario and luigi. I'm unsure how I should go about levels where I do mario and luigi like this in the future.
Mario
0:23 - Since mario has a shorter long jump, he has to long jump forward as it is the shortest path to the sand. Right when landing in the sand, go to up left and spin. The spin turns mario a bit faster and can't be done as luigi easily. To avoid the fire balls, you have to long jump holding up left again and then straighten out. The rest isn't too bad, but sometimes you will be burned like I did in this run.
1:01 - This wall jump was a mistake, otherwise 2 long jumps into a spin turn and long jumps is the strat.
1:10 - I got too close to the torch. First time this happened too.
Luigi
0:23 - This is the route the IL uses, but it takes a more direct route to the end than the IL. To minimize the chance of the first long jump chain failing, switch from left to up left when you land on the sand and keep that angle for both long jumps. It still can fail, but it helps. Make sure when you get onto the first ring that you long jump quickly or you'll get burned.
1:01 - Walking in this sand is deliberate to get a better long jump angle. Luigi can't really do a spin turn like mario can, so he has to just accept the slight time loss.
1:07 - I forgot to do nunchuk spins and did a back up. This lost about 1.5s.
Both
2:03 - I almost never fail this jump, and when I do fail I don't die. It's best to be on the right side with your hand hitting the coins instead of directly into mario/luigi's face. The jump isn't immediately when the camera changes, but a bit into it. Pretty forgiving window.
2:10 - Standard squizard boss fight. The fireball spam is just holding forward on the control stick and spamming Z + shake.
3:01 - Look at mario side. He threw the bombs completely wrong. The luigi side showed how it was SUPPOSED to look. Very weird.
