In this video, I talk to Dr. David Rapoport about sleep apnea. He also discusses research on the brain, Alzheimer's Disease, and the impact of AI and other technologies on sleep research.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Rapoport attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and received his M.D. in 1974. He did his Internal Medicine training at the Roosevelt Hospital and a Pulmonary Fellowship at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue. He has been involved in clinical research in Sleep Medicine since 1979 and is currently the Director of the Sleep Medicine Research Program at Mount Sinai. Dr. Rapoport has a longstanding interest in the physiology of sleep disordered breathing (sleep apnea and snoring). He was one of the early users and developers of nasal CPAP as a treatment for sleep apnea. He holds multiple U.S. and European patents for improvements on nasal CPAP. Dr. Rapoport is the founder and President of the Foundation for Research in Sleep Disorders. This non-profit organization supports sleep research through grants and fellowship stipends, and has contributed to the education of future sleep scientists and to funding research leading to development of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in sleep medicine. He was also formerly on the Board of Directors of the American Sleep Apnea Association and formerly of the American Lung Association of the City of New York.
