LuAnne Thompson is a Professor of Oceanography and Adjunct Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington. She has a B.S. (UC Davis) and M.A. in Physics (Harvard University) and a PhD in Oceanography (MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution). She studies the fluid dynamics of the oceans and the interaction of the ocean with the atmosphere including marine heatwaves and El Nino. She also collaborates widely with scientists across disciplines to study the impacts of weather and climate on ecosystems and people.
