Hey comrades! As you probably know, I did make a video about a theory that Russians are not, in fact, Slavs. And it caused a heated discussion. So OBVIOUSLY I cannot help but look on a related issue from a different angle. If Russians are so sure that they are 100% Slavs - then what about those who don't look like ones? How are they treated in Russia? Today we are going to talk about common issues faced by people who live in Russia, but do not look like ethnic Russians.
I want to warn you right off the bat, we're not going to talk explicitly about some really serious things like ethnic violence today. And we are not going to talk about obvious difficulties of foreigners in Russia either. Today I wanted to talk about some inconspicuous, everyday things that haunt people who are not ethnic Russians in their everyday life there. Things like police bias, employer prejudices, and landlord mistrust. The interesting thing is that Russia is a home for more than 190 ethnic groups and many of them don't have your generic "Slavic" appearance - no light hair, straight nose or grey eyes. They are citizens of Russia and constitutionally they have all the rights of Russian citizens, but still have to face some difficulties simply because of their appearance or surname.
