Danielle Rippeon Nemetz was shot in the back of her head by her husband Skylar Nemetz on October 16th 2015. Nemetz gave at least four accounts of what happened. One of which was telling a neighbor that Danielle Nemetz shot herself while cleaning the AR-15 rifle that was in the apartment for her protection while he wa away on military duty.
Instead of calling 911, Nemetz took the magazine from the gun and threw it under a bed and put the AR-15 into a close. He also told detectives he flushed the contents of a bottle of cinnamon whiskey down the toilet.
Charged with 1st degree murder the trial took place Feb/Mar. 2016. The jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict so instead found him guilty on a lesser conviction of 1st-degree manslaughter with a firearm enhancement. Nemetz was sentenced to the maximum term of 13 1/2 years in prison.
