SIPs or “structural insulated panels” are an alternative building strategy that have been used for decades in both high-performance buildings and affordable housing. The panelized system allows for a quick and cost-effective installation. However, SIPs are composed of highly moisture-sensitive materials and require extra attention to the detailing and specifications to ensure long-term durability. In this video, we discuss water management, air sealing, and vapor control for SIP assemblies used in house construction.
