Sieverodonetsk is a Ukrainian city located less than 100 kilometres from Luhansk. An industrial city in the middle of a forest in eastern Ukraine. A city of comfortable neighbourhoods and wide, spacious avenues, and bright murals on the walls of the same-looking houses. A city built on sand, which has never seen mud. The one non-locals were often asking about it, “And how is it called correctly?”
In 2014, Sieverodonetsk survived the occupation under pro-Russian militants, won back its freedom, and assumed the role of an administrative centre of the Luhansk region instead of the temporarily occupied Luhansk. Displaced people from the occupied territories started their lives here anew.
At the end of June 2022, Sieverodonetsk was again captured by Russian invaders. But we believe that the Ukrainian defenders will win it back this time as well. And we will celebrate our national victory on one of the squares in Sieverodonetsk because it is Ukraine!
