It’s been a tough week on the farm. Homesteading and raising livestock on pasture is incredibly rewarding, but it comes with real challenges that you can't always predict.
In today’s video, we are dealing with a sudden outbreak of pink eye in our cattle herd, compounded by a massive spike in the fly population. We’ll show you the exact fly control methods we are implementing right now to protect our cows and get this infection under control.
But the challenges didn't stop there. After a devastating visit from a local predator, we lost some of our meat chickens to a fox. We’re moving our pastured poultry to a new paddock today and completely upgrading our predator defense and electric fencing setup to keep the flock safe.
We also head over to check on the feeder pigs, look at their current growth rate, and break down the specific swine feed ration we use to keep them healthy, growing, and thriving on pasture.
