It’s all about long-term food preservation and traditional farm-to-table cooking today at Sheraton Park Farms!
We start out with Chuck and Saundra showing how we prepare our recent onion harvest for long-term storage. Since we don't have a formal root cellar, we show our improvised method: trimming the tops and roots, loading them into wire baskets, and storing them under the house for maximum shelf life.
Next, we head into the kitchen where Saundra finishes up her Peach Peel Jelly from the previous episode, walking through the final boiling, canning, and setting steps to turn fruit scraps into a sweet homestead treat!
To round out the day, Saundra cooks a complete, 100% farm-grown supper from scratch:
- Fresh Southern Tomato Pie featuring heirloom tomatoes from our garden
- Sweet corn picked fresh right off the stalk
- A warm pot of home-canned October beans from our pantry
- Golden, crispy cornbread baked to perfection in a classic cast-iron skillet
