This shortened, coil loaded Ham Radio antenna is known in Europe under the name “ Hollandina”. This is probably because of it originates from Holland, the Netherlands. Whatever it is, one thing is clear: this End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antenna not only works nice for DX on the higher bands but is a very good companion for the field NVIS (Near Vertical Incidence Skywave) operations and could be successfully used for the Emergency communications (Emcomm).
In this video, I made a test of this antenna for the NVIS being on the Baltic seaside and registering into the local 80m net running just barefoot Elecraft KX2 transceiver at 10W of output. Local, meaning some 300-plus km around my location. It’s across the whole country in my case :-).
I’m very pleased with the results and highly recommend this design for anyone who needs a shortened yet effective antenna on 80m and up. Here is the link to my other in-detail video on this antenna:
SHORTY 80 -10m EFHW ! Field test.
