Police say the body of a 39-year-old woman was discovered shortly after midnight Tuesday on Lenox Avenue in Harlem.

She had been stabbed, according to police. There were no immediate arrests and no weapon was found. The investigation is continuing.

The victim wasn't immediately identified.

This comes as statistics show a rise in crime in New York City when it comes to murders and shootings.

Shootings are up nine percent over the same period last year. Murders are up 20 percent.

Most of the crimes committed involve guns. There have been 98 gun-related incidents so far this year compared to 69 a year ago.

During a news conference at 1 Police Plaza Monday, NYPD officials announced measures to combat the rise in murders and shootings.

133 cops will be moved to street patrols and 15 precincts with the highest crime rates will see cops working longer shifts.
