Years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Shoko Nakagawa (Shokotan) through Anime Pop, an online anime show I hosted for. Our meeting at Anime Expo was even featured on Japanese TV.
I brought her a Bruce Lee figure, and later she wrote about our meeting on her blog, saying she felt like we were sisters. We bonded over our shared love of anime, manga, cats, Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Junji Ito, and so many of the things that inspired us growing up.
What makes this memory even more special is that years later, I had the opportunity to record and release official Japanese and English covers of her songs through a label in Japan.
Some dreams really do come full circle. 💖
