After a long hiatus (as in nothing since the beginning of the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011), the Shinobi franchise from SEGA is finally going to make a comeback with a new game as a part of their "POWER SURGE" projects.

But before moving forward (and I have at least one or two other additional games I want to cover, at that), I wanted to go back to the very birth of this ninja series to see how far it has come as a series that almost felt like a SEGA mascot on its own before Sonic arrived.
----------

In the original Shinobi arcade game, you play as Joe Musashi, the strongest ninja of the Oboro clan. He is out to hunt down the evil organization Zeed, who have kidnapped several Oboro children, as a part of their attempt to revert Japan back to the Sengoku Period of civil war.
----------

This is a tough arcade game. You die in one hit, presuming the hit is one that was support to hurt you (some bumps into enemies are safe). You will be using his ninja skills to jump to different lanes and platforms on the stage.

From a distance, you toss shuriken, but when you're up close, you one-shot enemies with a punch or kick. If you gain a POW-er Up, Joe gets a mighty gun that does more damage, and up close he'll outright pull out his sword: Hazy-Moon.

Joe also has access to different screen-filling Ninjutsu attacks, but which one he has on him depends on the stage.

There are 5 stages in the game, and each of them are split up into their own segments of 3. To beat the first two, you have to looking for the kidnapped ninja children in pink before you can move on. This is usually where you'll get your POW boosts from.
----------

After dealing with punks and fake Spider-Men throughout the city, Stage 1's boss is against a giant warrior named Ken Oh. To beat him, dodge his fire attacks and aim for his head!

After each stage is fully completely, you go through Bonus Stage in a bid to get extra lives. Shoot down every single enemy ninja you see. Don't let a single one of them leap off the closer lane towards you, or you've already lost as the ninja will get a close-up on you for a strike!
