They pinned her diaper to a towel in a shoebox and set her outside every day so she’d make it.
Her mother died of tuberculosis when she was 3 months old. Her dad remarried as soon as he found someone suitable and she and him raised my grandma.
Back then in the 1930s they used cloth diapers on her and if they were lucky they caught a poop or two in a chamber pot.
Once she began walking they showed her to go on the little chamber pot in the room.
She was very quickly potty trained well before a year and a half old.
My then-10-month old Marilyn wore disposable diapers. But they were a “backup,” not a “toilet.”
I pottied her from birth at every wake up and every poop face; then I’d potty her when she signaled or when it seemed like time to go based on what I learned about her.
I took her out of diapers around walking at 12 months old.
I kept a mini potty in the room so she could take herself or I could remind her.
