What a fantastic glimpse of old Belfast! This wonderful scene takes us back to around 1950 on the Shankill Road, just below Tennant Street, when Belfast’s great double-decker trams were still part of everyday life.
The street is absolutely buzzing — trams rolling along the tracks, pedestrians going about their business, old shopfronts lining the road and those marvellous period advertisements taking us straight back to another Belfast.
One of the trams proudly carries “Shankill Road” on its destination board, a sight that would have been completely familiar to generations of Belfast families before the city’s tram system finally disappeared in 1954.
Look closely at the clothes, the shops, the vehicles and all the little details of everyday life. Scenes like this are more than old photographs — they are pieces of Belfast history brought back to life.
