Professor Howard Williams reviews a recent publication reinterpreting the archaeological excavations at Shakenoak Roman Villa in Oxfordshire. A new evaluation of the landscape context, excavated sequence and finds, as well as the 22 inhumation graves subject to fresh radiocarbon dating and multi-isotope analysis, the articles claim that this represents a 'classic study in continuity' is evaluated.
