The diversity of our San Antonio scene runs deep; from bands respresenting a variety of genres to include: power metal , thrash, metalcore, black metal, prog & hardcore punk. The truly talented bands can in many instances combine some of these genres & within that fine line even create their own unique sound. And despite my own thrash roots, I first came to know some of our city's hardcore bands during my initial taping days (in the early 90's) at the legendary DMZ club. Performances were wild, concise & straggly brutal. However, the most important singular trait to me was IF bands could pull it off & pull it off well (both in the studio AND live). And, almost 30 years later its hard to believe that musicians bred from that cloth & mentality still run rampid in SA; that's where metallic hardcore behemoths, Shadow Hounds come in, not only maintaing respect for the genre, but delivering their own blend of hardcore with hues of thrash, heavy choruses & vivid solo work. The band's debut, 'Out For Blood' crossed my desk when long standing drummer, StefanDW, enthusiastically delivered it to me. I could feel the fire in his eyes & I was jubilant to hear that he had every right to be. I found OFB to both be nod to the old & an exuberant commitment to the modern,....even offering the most dubios fans something to cheer about with the masterfully, dark guitar laden instrumental, 'Respite'. I instantly knew I wanted to support this piece of work, so I invited the band to the RMW Studio on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 for a fun filled, beer laden evening of brotherhood. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the rich history of each member, the recording of OFB, playing regionally, upcoming video work, NEW music & a shitload of laughs.
