Things have certainly changed on my street lately, but the sentiment's still the same. From 1977, Big Bird (Caroll Spinney) and Olivia (Alaina Reed Hall) are excited to clean up the place for the President's visit (his motorcade is due to drive by) and sing about all the things and people they see when they're "Walkin' Down My Street", written by Tony Geiss.
Remade 20 years later, Big Bird opened Season 29 (Ep 3656, 1997) with it as he passed by Hooper's Store, the Furry Arms Hotel, Gina's Day Care Center, Finders Keepers, Celina's Dance Studio, the playground, and Oscar's newsstand. As the song ends, he returns to his nest and gazes outside. "Sesame Street," he sighs. "Not just a street. A way of life. Home." *sniffle!*
