HELP, kids! It's Cookie Monster's birthday and Susan's having an affair! :-O Wait a sec, that's just Hal Miller as Gordon cuddling up to Susan (Loretta Long), whew! Looks SO weird. First aired in Season 4 (March 1, 1973), it's Episode 484 of the best darn kids show ever, Sesame Street! Hugs to Ingeborg Nordén aka @Just Looking! who heard our cries for HELP! and answered in kind. So, let's give Cookie a hand unwrapping his/our gifts.
GORDON NOTE: Hal Miller was only around for two seasons (4-5, 1972-1974), so a full episode from that era has been hard to find. Bless you, HBO Max! He was a bit of a transitional Gordon between classic Matt Robinson (1-3) and Roscoe Orman in Season 6 (1974). Yeah, that's right, 46 years ago.
HBO MAX CUTS: Ernie (Jim Henson) removes Bert's (Frank Oz) nose when he sneezes (revenge for The Mysterious Nose-Snatcher perhaps?); There Once Was a Hand.
The main story is Cookie's (Frank Oz) birthday, of course, which I won't spoil here. Marvelously fun stuff. Otherwise, here's what you'll find.
NEW CAST STUFF: In two different street scenes, Luis (Emilio Delgado) and Gordon share their different perspectives on the stormy weather while Susan and Bob (Bob McGrath) swap their umbrellas' positions; Dressed as surgeons, Maria (Sonia Manzano), David (Northern Calloway), Susan and Luis "operate" on a motorcycle.
NEW MUPPETS: Grover (Frank Oz) is proud he knows how to read the word "HELP" and shouts it so loudly everyone comes running, including Gordon in mid-shave, to see what the problem is.
REPEAT MUPPETS: Dee, Dee, Dee (Jeff Moss) w/Ernie and Cookie Monster; Ernie finds Herry's big yellow ball; 3 Monsters w/Grover, Herry Monster (Jerry Nelson), and Billy (Fran Brill) running around showing there's always three of them (English and Spanish versions); Kermit (Jim Henson) demonstrates his "What Happens Next" machine; Alien Alphabet; Little Bird (Fran Brill) and Cookie Monster show "next to"; Three Harvey Kneeslapper (Frank Oz) sketches where he's foiled by a bucket of confetti above a door, offers to HELP an Anything Muppet with his heavy packages, and Dion You!, where he slaps a letter D on a man's chest.
