First aired on April 10, 1970, Oscar's still orange, Grover's still green and nameless, but "Lulu's Back in Town" and George Zima (as Pete the street sweeper), a delightful dancer, is here to sweep you off your feet on another full episode of the best darn kids show ever! Zima, now 93, was a recurring dancer on Captain Kangaroo, often in costume (one ep linked below), and had a full Broadway career many would envy. Let's unwrap our latest pressie, shall we? NEW STUFF: George kicks off some marvy dancing with a great tap-dance rap and Susan shows Big Bird how to waltz, which you know won't be easy. Also, Oscar the Grouch shows off his noise boxes, Bob counts with his "finger faces", Mr. Hooper plays a game with the kids using pictures of his cousin Humperdinck (stop it!), and Gordon reads "Peter's Chair" by the legendary Ezra Jack Keats.
I guess part of sweeping the streets includes picking up boxes the mailman was too lazy to deliver or something 'cause, for some reason, Pete delivers three different boxes to Mr. Hooper (N box, K box, V box), all containing items matching the letters. I love the kitten one, lol! Couldn't afford an actual kitten in those days, I guess.
NEW CARTOON: Virgil Veep (two men on a capital V, sounds like Bob Arbogast and Jim Thurman).
