For director Maya Newell, giving the subjects of her documentaries creative input is a liberating experience and one that leads to better outcomes.
“At the end of the day, everything that we film, she [Georgie Stone] had control over. She would get the last say in the edit. She could decide what went in the film, what went out of the film, whether we even made a film,” Newell explains.
In this behind the scenes video, Newell talks about her process making the documentary, how she surrounds herself with a creative team to assist her and what she hopes audiences will learn from Georgie’s story.
The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone is streaming on Netflix from 22 September, 2022.

![Rams - Behind the Scenes
Adapted from the hit Icelandic film Hrutar that was released in 2015, Rams brings the classic feuding brothers saga to the big screen with a distinct Aussie flavour.
The producers Aidan OBryan and Janelle Landers approached the filmmaker [of Hrutar] and asked him if theyd be interested in maybe selling the rights to remake it in English, explains director Jeremy Sims. From very early on we all agreed that if we were going to do it, we wouldnt remake it in the style of the original one. That we would find a different way to tell that saga.
This meant swapping the cold Icelandic land for the wide sunburnt outback of regional Western Australia and including the threat of bushfires which actually occurred nearby during filming.
There was a bushfire over that week, like a really big bushfire just down the road from where we were shooting. So we got all of this ambient smoke and the orange sun and all the things that we needed for those dialogue scenes between Sam [Neill] and Miranda [Richardson]. We were very lucky with that.
Rams releases in Australian cinemas on 29 October, 2020.
