Adapted from the hit Icelandic film Hrutar that was released in 2015, Rams brings the classic feuding brothers saga to the big screen with a distinct Aussie flavour.

"The producers Aidan O'Bryan and Janelle Landers approached the filmmaker [of Hrutar] and asked him if they'd be interested in maybe selling the rights to remake it in English," explains director Jeremy Sims. "From very early on we all agreed that if we were going to do it, we wouldn't remake it in the style of the original one. That we would find a different way to tell that saga."

This meant swapping the cold Icelandic land for the wide sunburnt outback of regional Western Australia and including the threat of bushfires which actually occurred nearby during filming.

"There was a bushfire over that week, like a really big bushfire just down the road from where we were shooting. So we got all of this ambient smoke and the orange sun and all the things that we needed for those dialogue scenes between Sam [Neill] and Miranda [Richardson]. We were very lucky with that."

"Rams" releases in Australian cinemas on 29 October, 2020.
