Writer, director and co-producer Aimée-Lee Xu Hsien explains how the COVID lockdown inspired her new online series.

During the COVID lockdowns in Sydney, filmmaker Aimée-Lee Xu Hsien was like most people during 2021 – spending more time online. This led her to joining community groups on Facebook.

“I joined because I realised how entertaining they are and I found a lot of comedy in what people were posting about,” Xu Hsien reveals. “I actually started screen-shotting people’s community group posts and then turned some of the screen shots directly into the episodes.”

In this behind-the-scenes video, Xu Hsien discusses the challenges she created for herself by writing too many characters, how a main actor had to withdraw from production the night before filming was due to commence and how a missing guinea pig was the inspiration for episode two.
Pleasant Avenue is available to stream on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
