Jan-Steffen Fischer, a PhD student at the Institute for Space Systems, is taking a close look at this issue. He conducts life cycle assessments of space transportation systems. In his work, he examines environmental impacts across the entire life cycle—from manufacturing and launch to potential effects in space and the disposal of the systems. The goal: to identify the most effective levers for sustainable spaceflight.

Dabei betrachtet er die Umweltbelastungen über den gesamten Lebenszyklus – von der Herstellung über den Start bis hin zu möglichen Auswirkungen im Weltraum und der Entsorgung der Systeme. Das Ziel: Die wirksamsten Stellschrauben für eine nachhaltige Raumfahrt zu identifizieren.
