Join designer Hailey Hodge and Fiber Ambassador Sydney Morrell for 5 days on the beautiful island of Sardinia. Situated in the Mediterranean, Sardinia has a notable weaving tradition with tapestries inspired by the symbolism from their ancient culture.We will delve into the history of how these tapestries evolved, starting with meeting the native Sarda sheep. We will then work with the dye plants and discover the fascinating archaeological sites of the Nuragic people, one of the "Sea Peoples" indigenous to Sardinia. Hailey will then help you take the next step in your knitting journey, from knitter to designer, choosing among these remarkable motifs and translating them to a knitted design of your own making. All this while enjoying the bounty of the Blue Zone region, fabulous food and wine, the company of your fellow knitters in the gorgeous setting of our hotel.
Hailey is a professor of studio art which inspires her design work in knitting and crochet. Her passion lies in transforming intricate designs into wearable pieces of art, crafted with simplicity and ease. Hailey grew up in the United States, and currently lives in Florence, Italy.
Sydney has raised her own sheep, and has taken their fleece from shearing to dying, using foraged dye plants, to spinning and knitted garments. Her passion lies in understanding the various knitting traditions and the bio-diverse environments in which they thrive.
