Sanji VS Lucci Isn't Fair

After Egghead basically wrapped up in the anime, a new statement followed by a new magazine dropped where Sanji has been stated to be not only on par with Zoro. But someone worthy of being called a wing of the future pirate king. Now since this dropped a lot of you are probably thinking how I’m SO STUPID FOR THINKING SANJI SUCKS. Even though new information came out that doesn’t even make anything all that different. But what it does change is definitely my perspective of this matchup, and after rereading Egghead and looking through Sanji’s Post Wano feats, this matchup is one that I personally think should’ve happened, and so I’ll go over their scaling along with that as well. Now I think before talking about Egghead it goes without saying the history between these two ties is thicker than Zoro and Lucci. Lucci may have beaten up Zoro back then, but Sanji was the first one to initiate saving Robin, and we see how Robin saved him from looking like a fool in Wano. So what better way to make this back than saving full circle, than with eliminating the main man who wanted her dead. Obviously in Ennies Lobby this dude was far weaker than Lucci as he just barely beat Jabra, but it is safe to say by the end of pre timeskip he has caught up to Gear 2 Luffy and a weakened Zoro. But of course this is NOT the matchup you care about so let’s move to Egghead. Now I feel this needs to be said when talking about Sanji in Egghead, and that’s his performance in the anime. The anime likes to portray Sanji a lot worse than what he is in the manga, meaning it’s possible that this could affect his scaling in this matchup. However I don’t think it matters all that much when looking at the bigger picture. Now firstly Sanji is able to easily blitz and intercept S Shark. He also was just no selling hits from this guy, who should be in at least that Base Zoro/Gear 4 tier. Though I think Zoro just fights a stronger seraphim, it’s still something to note as this is pretty consistent in the arc. However we saw even in Wano that Zoro and Sanji at least initially were on the same tier kinda. This isn’t something inconsistent in the series, but I do think a lot of people are overrating this statement. I do not think Sanji could beat Yamato Law or any of the characters who stepped up to the yonko at their peak, but it seems to me Sanji is now the bare minimum for this tier of power. It makes sense given he should’ve already been above Marco by Wano who fought King and Queen at the same time, and even fought Kizaru much better than even Rayleigh did. So weirdly enough Sanji actually has a lot going for him although it doesn’t seem to be that way. Anywho, he then goes onto hurt Gear 5 with Franky and Bonney, needing to actually hurt him in order for Luffy to throw that force back at the Gorosei. For comparison, Lucci was able to fight Gear 5 and questionably didn’t do terribly, though it seemed like Luffy definitely was just trolling for most of the fight . But him at least surviving a fight with Luffy and getting a little bit more love in the anime here, is something to factor in 100%. Even clashing evenly with Zoro for the majority of the fight, would obviously be a no brainer threat to someone like Sanji, who does like chicken nugget damage to Gear 5, and has shown semi comparable feats to a Casual Zoro. This is interesting to note as Sanji is showing these feats while not at his full power, and Zoro the second he uses a named attack and Sanji says to skip the foreplay, Zoro just… negs his strongest attack. Lucci at his best unironically is in this Base Zoro tier, and he’s forced to use a bit of his actual real strength to take him down. Sanji for comparison has actually done combo moves with a Zoro using named attacks in Elbaf, unlike in the Lucci fight where Zoro legit just rolled on him the whole time like it’s Elden Ring. Sanji is portrayed to be much closer to a Zoro who’d be actually trying his hardest and not playing with his food. Lucci definitely does better in the anime, and if I’m being honest anime Sanji might just get bullied by this version of Lucci, but it seems to me in the current events of the manga, Sanji would just beat Lucci with a higher difficulty than what Zoro had to deal with, though the fight might actually end faster due to Sanji being enraged and wanting his get back for Robin.
