Back in 2009 I built a Bike Generator to help Elementary School kids better understand Energy and Light Bulbs. After touring the local Elementary Schools I donated it to the local Community College. They recently called me and asked if I wanted it back since it was no longer working.
I thought I'd update it to make it more useful. So I connected the output of the generator to a DC-DC Boost converter and set the voltage output to 42V. This allows me to charge two RYOBI 18V batteries in series and to use the RYOBI 40V 300 Watt Pure Sine Inverter. With the smaller Bike Frame I currently have, it generates about 80Watts at a moderate pace.
