HRF and Perseus Strategies filed a UN petition on behalf of Salvadoran lawyers and human rights defenders Ruth López and Enrique Anaya.

Both were arrested in 2025 after publicly criticizing the Bukele regime and remain in prolonged pretrial detention on charges of illicit enrichment and money laundering without concrete evidence.

They have faced incommunicado detention, denial of access to counsel and evidence, and over a year of detention without a trial date, in violation of international law.
