R-Type c64 by Electric Dreams/Rainbow Arts, loaded from tape
Another terrible master for no reason. So the real question, with R-type, is why does the loading screen make me press fire? Like, why is that loading screen not just a loading screen? So you end up with, again:
load intro, wait for fire
load title, wait for game start key
flip tape (I did not realise I had to press fire here!)
load level 1..... i think?!
title screen again?! Then "press space"
Now load level 1..... wtaf?!
I then found myself wondering if I can load just from side 2 and skip the intro.... and it turns out you can - making the entirety of side one _entirely useless_ since you can just start on side 2, and be into the game in half the time! This is not mentioned _anywhere_ in the instructions, and would be really useful to know!
So yeah, I find myself wishing for a real hardware warp mode with this one. Zzap did point out the multiload is horrible, and I have to agree with them - turrican this is not.... I haven't tried katakis yet myself, however I'm told that one is _fine_ on tape, so I'd have to guess most of this is "omg we need to get this done immediately!" problems, but still..... Turrican reached its ingame well before R-type even reaches its main title screen, so Rainbow Arts obviously learned something over the years!
